FAQ - Wind Comfort simulations by Ingrid Cloud

Frequently asked questions

Where does the weather data come from?

Historical weather data is provided by meteoblue. To learn more about meteoblue verification model click here.

Can I try the Wind Comfort app for free?

Once you have registered a free account, you will find several example simulations that you can examine. If you are a professional customer, you can request a free simulation from the account dashboard in order to see what Ingrid Cloud is capable of.

From time to time, we have special promotions and if you’d like to be notified to the next one, just drop Yagmur an e-mail at yagmur at

How much does a Wind Comfort Simulation cost?

Wind Comfort simulations’ start price is $975. Go to Pricing page.

Do I have to run the simulations myself?

It’s up to you! Ingrid Cloud provides a do-it-by-yourself work frame, where you can set-up a simulation within minutes. And we also provide personalized urban wind studies, performing tailor-made simulations and reports for our customers.

If our existing apps do not fit your needs, contact us and we will make sure to find a solution for you.

How to proceed:
• I can run my own simulations: register an account, upload you model and start a simulation.
• I need your help: contact us here.

Is it possible to change the wind profile?

Yes, when setting up a simulation, it’s possible to choose between 3 different wind profiles. Choose the one that matches with the surroundings of your area of interest:

1. City/Forest
2. Open Terrain
3. Water.

Is it possible to upload your own wind data?

We are working on that feature. The possibility for uploading your own wind data is coming soon. At the moment, this can be ordered as a service, and you can hire Add-Ons like this one directly from your account.

What does ‘visualization height’ means and how does it affect the results?

The visualization of your simulation will be provided according to the heights you choose. Default height for pedestrian comfort is 2 meters measured from the bottom of the given model. It’s possible to add up to 4 different heights.

Is it possible to look at results from meshing (mesh quality)?

Yes, after the simulation is completed mesh pictures are available on the report page. The mesh can also be analyzed by the downloadable .VTU file.

Is it possible to change the solver parameters?

No, in order to provide a fast result and minimize human errors, solver parameters are default for all users.

This is Ingrid Cloud’s solver parameters:

Turbulence model: Implicit Large Eddy Simulation - used with stabilization on under resolved local mesh cells acting as turbulence model.

Num. scheme: Space Discretization
Continuous Galerkin with First Order Lagrangian elements.

Num. scheme: Time Discretization

Krylov method

Block Jacobi

Is it possible to post-process simulation results yourself?

Yes, raw .VTU file can be downloaded from the report page. Read hot to apply raw data here.

Can I personalize my Wind Rose with specific wind directions?

Currently, this can be done manually, through our consultancy service. In the future, Ingrid Cloud will allow users to personalize the sectors according a specific demand. Let’s say you know the prevailing wind directions in the area of interest are Northeast and you want to run a 4-wind direction simulation with the wind rose set to: NE, SE, SW, NW.

After the simulation is performed, how do I check the number of directions considered?

In the Summary tab you will find all the Input Parameters information considered for that simulation.

How to interpret a Wind Comfort report?

The Wind Comfort report is designed to be easy-to-interpret (with support text and more than 300 media files). But if you’re new to wind comfort simulation and want to make sure you will understand and apply your data correctly; you can count on our specialists’ team. Personal consultation price starts at $97,5 per hour and can be purchased directly from your dashboard.

How many wind directions do I need for my Wind Comfort project?

The simple answer is: the later into the design process, the more directions a Wind Comfort analysis should have. Read a detailed explanation here.
